CHVRCH: During Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating strength in all forms. What does strength look like for you right now, in your everyday life?
Elia: Strength is motherhood. I have never felt as strong as I did while growing and birthing a baby. I also don’t think enough people talk about navigating postpartum. (That shit cray). Pregnancy, childbirth, and finding myself again all while trying to raise a human, truly makes me feel like I can do anything!!
C: You wear a lot of hats! Mom, Wife, Master Instructor, full-time professional. What has this season of life taught you about who you are becoming?
E: This season of life has taught me to be present and patient with myself and others. I’m constantly learning that I need to be intentional with my time especially with so much on my plate. I am also trying to be more forgiving with myself on the days that I can’t do it all.
C: Becoming a mother shifts everything. What parts of yourself have you had to fight to hold onto, and what parts have you learned to let evolve?
E: Nobody told me how much guilt comes from being a mother. I have to remind myself that it’s okay to prioritize the people and activities that fill my cup. I am so blessed to have a strong support system and rely on them when I need a moment to myself.
C: Music is such a big part of your identity as an instructor—especially your love for Bad Bunny. What’s some advice you would give to a new instructor who’s trying to define themselves on the podium?
E: My biggest piece of advice is to stay true to who you are and play music that makes you feel the most YOU. Bad bunny has found so much success in being himself, why are we scared to do the same?
C: For the woman reading this who feels like she’s losing herself in the chaos of life, motherhood, or responsibility, what would you tell her?
E: I would tell her to breathe & remind her that it’s okay to ask for help. Mothers are expected to handle everything and feel guilty when it becomes too much. I find the most support when talking with other mothers. It’s validating to know that we are all just trying to figure it out.
C: What does the word legacy mean to you?
E: Living a life so meaningful that it impacts future generations.
